CONSULTING SERVICE

Many family historians, just like you, enjoy searching the records of libraries and courthouses, digging in trunks, rummaging around in dusty, old attics, and going on research trips to locate information about their ancestors. However, they are not always certain what information is needed to accomplish a research objective, which record-types (census, land, probate, military, and etc.) to search, where to find the records, who and how to ask for assistance, and how to interpret the data discovered in the research process. Sometimes you just need a fresh perspective or a second opinion about a research problem or a conclusion drawn from the collected evidence.

For those who want to conduct their own genealogical research or need some problem-solving assistance, Ancestor Research can be a personal genealogy consultant. Consulting Services will reduce stress, increase research productivity, and most importantly, save time and money. This approach to genealogical research often uncovers previously unknown, living relatives who will be anxious to get acquainted and trade information about common ancestors.

This is how the Consulting Service works. When Ancestor Research knows what research problem you are trying to solve and evaluated your existing information, we will assess your specific needs, develop a research strategy, and create a systematic, search plan. Included in your contract for consulting services, Ancestor Research will allocate time for follow-up discussions of the plan and the results of your search.

Unless otherwise specified in the contract for services, research resources will be based on materials available at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City, Utah and accessible through a local Family History Center (A list of Family History Centers is available at www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHL/frameset_fhc.asp). Moreover, research consultants are available for on-site consulting projects at the FHL and other major repositories throughout the United States.

Consulting Service fees are charged at a rate of $50 per hour with a ten (10) hour minimum. A research plan, an itemized statement of services, and any unused portion of the retainer will be sent to the client when the contract is completed.

Your Consulting Service from Ancestor Research in Four Easy Steps:

1.  Complete the Ancestor Information Questionnaire.
2.  A Consulting Service professional will contact you within 24 hours.
3.  A detailed agreement and invoice with payment instructions will be prepared and sent to you.
4.  Ancestor Research begins work upon receipt of payment (We currently accept Visa, Mastercard, and American Express).
